A while ago and with the help of our pal, Edmundo Farerra, we hosted a not serious mezcal chat at La Fuente on Cinco de Mayo. we invited Samual Flynn Scott along to imbibe with us. He writes a little freelance foodie stuff for The Spinoff when he isn’t on stage singing lead vocals for The Phoenix Foundation. Here’s his take on how his Sunday afternoon drinking mezcal not seriously went down.

the beauty of bubbles: why champagne is so good (and NZ sparkling is not far off)

We booked out one of our favourites, Culprit and got a panel of four wine-world folk together to discuss the topic all while we imbibed in some of the good stuff, Champagne Collet & Huia Blanc de Blancs.

Culprit owner and Chef, Kyle Street served up southern style deep fried chicken goodness that added just the right salt and fat ratio to all the fizzy fruit and acids and we invited Simon Day of The Spinoff along to wet his whistle with an effervescent flute of fizzy vino.
